ELINYAE is the main institution for research and development of scientific studies on OHS issues. In this context, the institute has collaborated with other institutions in Greece (Universities, Research Centers, Institutes of Social Partners, etc.) and abroad (e.g. European Organization for Safety and Health at Work, National Institutes for Health and Safety of European countries, Universities etc.). Through this research activity, the challenges for prevention and protection of health and safety in Greece are highlighted and methodological and research tools are developed (e.g. occupational risk assessment tools, good practice guides).
More specifically, the Institute conducts:
- Cross-sectional studies or studies in specific job specializations, taking into consideration the particular features of each sector and specialty
- Occupational health and safety thematic surveys (cross-sectional or other type) focusing on certain key health and safety topics (e.g. new and emerging hazards).
- Case studies: The Institute, at the request of companies or workers’ representatives, conducts special studies for specific original projects with particularities. An example is the study conducted in the context of the restoration work of the Acropolis, which was awarded by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) and implemented in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture.
- Studies on the interaction between work and the wider environment (e.g. health and safety at home and at school).
